5/9/09 BULLITT GETS ADOPTED!!!
Yes your eyes are not deceiving you, Bullitt the super-boy has been adopted. The family will be gaining quite the wonderful boy. Good luck Bullitt, I enjoyed having you in my home. I am sure Olive will miss playing with you.

Bullitt visits his second meet-n-greet. Today we went to Petsmart in Joliet for the annual adoption day. Bullitt helped raise money and greyhound awareness. He continues to enjoy meeting kids and people. He met quite a few other doggies too. He has no issues with other breeds and likes them all the same. After about an hour and a half Bullitt was ready to take a break. I brought his bed so he could lay down. He even enjoyed the petting he received when he was laying down. He is such a sweet loving boy. Toys are a big hit and when he is outside he enjoys playing and chasing his goose around. The sun is another thing Bullitt loves. If you let him, he would love to sleep in the yard with the sun beaming down on him. After a 3 hour stint at the meet-n-greet, someone is ready for a long nap, see the picture above, this is what he did when we got home.

Today Bullet was taken to the local baseball fields. There are a group of 6 fields with little league teams playing. Kids, dogs people everywhere. People yelling, cheering, dogs barking. Bullet had NO problems. In fact, whenever little kids would walk by, Bullet wanted to walk up to them and get lovins. Bullet walks very nicely on leash, as I have said before. Today we had something of a breakthrough, he has shown consistency of eliminating on-leash now. That may not sound like much to people that don't have experience with greyhounds, but believe me, its a big deal. I cannot say enough about this guy. He is as easy as my first greyhound (not a simple task). He definitely is ready for his forever home. Another thing, I do not allow him on my furniture, even though my other dogs get on the sofa, Bullet doesn't even think about jumping up. Here is a photo of the boy playing with a toy, he does love the toys!

Bullitt (Bullet?) is coming along great. He has mastered stairs with no issues. He is housebroken, he is excellent on car rides (sleeps most of the time). This guy is one wonderful boy. He will make a family very happy. From the first day to now, he definitely has gained a lot of confidence and has no issues with home life. He doesn't appear to have any issues with food aggression, space aggression or sleep aggression.

Are you looking for a bullet-proof hound? This could be the one for you. I cant say enough about this boy. If you have any specific questions, post it here and I will respond.

Bullit is gaining experience and confidence with each passing day. He does love the stuffies and is GREAT on car rides.

He had his first bath as well as his first meet-n-greet. We went to "All things Woof" today to help CIGA raise funds. Bullitt was a hit. He loved meeting everyone, as well as all the dogs that came through. I would say he has no issues with small dogs, or any dogs for that matter. He met various dogs from a Giant Schnauzer to a whippet/iggie mix. He also met a small white thing (not sure what breed) that really didn't interest him all that much. The car ride was about 35 minutes each way and he simply lays in the back when you get moving. Every now and then he gets up and wants to put his nose out the window. No panting, whining or other problems.

Bullitt is going to be one great pet for someone. He is quickly learning lay down and does not rush through doors. He is really happy and also enjoys playing outside with the other grey as well as people. I got down on the ground and he was having a great time playing with me (see first photo above).

Bullitt has arrived and did very well on the 30 minute car ride to our house. He even layed down a few times. He didn't know if it was ok to put his nose out the window, but he definitely wanted to.

Bullitt is gaining confidence with each time up and down the stairs, both carpeted inside stairs as well as the wood deck stairs outside.

Bullitt and our two hounds enjoy the backyard. I think Bullitt has a crush on my little girl Olive. He follows her around the yard and will try to chase her when she runs around. He is getting stronger every day. He REALLY likes being outside. He is very affectionate with people outside, will hang with you, and if you sit on the ground, will playbow and bump you with his nose to play.

Inside Bullitt enjoys spending time in his crate. He does like the stuffies that make noise. Getting tummy rubs is a favorite thing for him. He is very loving. He met our kitties, when our bossy cat hissed at him, he sniffed the hissing kitty, and decided that it wasn't worth it and walked away.

  1. Hi! I live in the Northwest suburbs and my husband and I have two little girls (ages 5 and 3) and are looking for a family dog that will be very tolerant with our children and the others in the neighborhood that seem to congregate here. How is he with lots of little ones, do you know?

  2. Elizabeth,
I do not have children, so I cannot make a determination on that aspect. I can however suggest that you speak with our adoption rep. Linda @ 813-468-8771. She knows Bullet and will be able to better advise you on your question. You can also, if you have not already, fill out an adoption application with "Greyhounds Only", this is the group that will be taking care of the adoption for Bullet. The "GO" website is: www.greyhoundsonly.com
Be sure to mention Bullet in your adoption application.

  3. Bullit looks like a handsome hound. Perhaps he's named after the 1968 Mustang GT that Steve McQueen made famous.

  5. There is a debate it his name is spelled as in the ammunition for a firearm, or after the move you reference. Personally I think the latter should be his spelling since he is a very good looking boy, and is such a gentleman. I removed the original response due to spelling error.

  6. Will Bullitt be at the Petsmart in Schaumburg this Saturday?

  7. Unfortunately Bullet will not be at PetSmart in Schaumburg this Saturday. I belive Bullet will be at the Kenosha Kennel day later this month. If you would like to meet Bullet, contact Linda @ 813-468-8771. She is the rep that is handling his adoption.

  8. Has Bulitt been left out of the crate on his own in the house while you were gone? Does he stay in his crate while you are at work?

  9. Since Bullet is a foster he will never be allowed out of the crate when nobody is at home (foster rule). I have left him out of the crate on a few occasions for 20-30 minutes while I do yardwork or other things outside the house, but still in earshot. There have been no problems to report during those times. Bullet gets along great with my cats and greys. He is crated when my wife and I are at work, typically 3-6 hours as my wife and I work different shifts. He has not had any accidents in his crate, or the house, nor does he destroy anything in or out of his crate. Thanks for the question.

  10. Just an afterthought, Bullet is left out of his crate when either one of my wife or myself are home. He also sleeps on the floor in our bedroom with us at night.

  11. About the origin his name -- I chose "Bullitt" for him when he came into the program (his registered name is JJ Buckin Bull). And of course, this dates me, but yes, it was for Steve McQueen in the same named movie "Bullitt" -- a handsome, sleek, elegant and "cool" guy - seemed like a perfect fit! It has appeared as "Bullet" but I don't like calling pups after ammunition... so "Bullitt" - So I'll take either the credit or the blame - no matter what, this Bullitt is a wonderful boy!

  12. We live in the nw suburbs and have two kids, two smallish dogs and two cats. One of our dog is definately the alpha, do you think Bullitt would like us?

  13. I do not have any children, so I cannot comment on how Bullitt is with kids. As far as small dogs, he (Bullitt) does just fine with them while we are on walks around the neighborhood. Cats, well we have two in our house and he is fine with them. If you are interested, fill out an application at Greyhounds Only "dot" com and list Bullitt as a dog you are interested in. If you have already placed an application, then when you are in contact with an adoption rep, mention Bullitt and they will take it from there.

  14. IS a 4 foot fence sufficent for Bullitt?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I believe "Greyhounds Only" does not require a fenced yard to adopt. That said, you may see in some of the photos an orange fence (snow fence). Bullitt has not shown any interest in jumping over the fence, even with a rabbit on the other side, but that is not a guarantee that it is sufficient either. My female greyhound clears a 5' wire fence with room to spare.

  16. we have done the app and are taking the child class. we have dogs and kids and cats for a potential Grey to meet. He seems to be enjoying all of them so far according to your notes above. I see above that Linda is his rep so we will inquire after our class. We may want to meet Bullitt if he is still available. I enjoyed his "movie". This blog is a great idea.

  17. Thank you for the compliment about the blog. I am glad you enjoyed the movie. Bullitt is such a sweet loving boy that so much likes to play. As far as meeting Bullitt, be sure to let the representative that you are working with knows that you are interested in Bullitt, that way they can work a meeting out should he be available.

  18. Hi foster parents,

We recently lost our beloved greyhound to cancer and have touched base with Sue P. We are going to kennel day on Saturday to meet Bullitt with application in hand.

  19. Hi foster parents,

Me again (follow up to 7:33 p.m. posting). I neglected to mention how excited we are to meet Bullitt on Saturday. He sounds like a tremendous boy! I just left a message for Linda with some preliminary information about me and my husband. What's odd is that in corresponding with Sue P. found out that our greyhound (that passed) has two siblings available for adoption at Greyhounds Only - Liz and Bill. They all look exactly alike. Small world! We are looking very forward to Saturday!

  20. Hello again - Sue P. asked that I fax her our application before we can meet Bullitt on Saturday so I will be doing that this morning. We may not be the right family for Bullitt but we are at least looking forward to meeting him!

  24. Hello all - my husband and I adopted Bullitt and Italy yesterday (she picked me I can't believe we got two dogs!). We can't wait for them to arrive. We put up their octagon so the cats know that they are coming. Wait until they find out it's two! Thank you so much foster parents for taking such good care of Bullitt. He is a true sweetie. We cannot replace our beloved greyhound Al, but it will be so nice to have more 4-legged friends around the house again! Thanks again :)
